Ingredients:
4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
The sugar can be divided into 2 teaspoons (10g) of granulated granular sugar
Use 1 teaspoon ( 6 g) of salt
7 g of dry active yeast in a packet
Water – 1 cup (310 ml).
Two tablespoons (30ml) of unsalted vegetable oil
Alternatively, you can add seeds, herbs, nuts or dried fruits.
Instructions:
Mix the Yeast Mixture
Add the warm water, yeast and sugar to a small mixing bowl. Allow it to rest in a small bowl for five or ten minutes. This means that the active yeast is now ready to be added.
Blend the dry Ingredients
In a bowl large enough to hold both flour and salt, combine them. Create a center well with the flour mixture.
Use the ingredients that are wet
Pour the melted butter or vegetable oil into the well. Use a wooden or metal spatula to stir the mixture together, incorporating flour gradually until a rough batter forms. At this point, you can incorporate any additional ingredients such as herbs or seeds.
Kneading Dough
It is best to turn the dough onto a lightly-floured work surface. You can knead the dough for around 10 minutes to make it smoother and more elastic. The dough can be made more elastic by adding a small amount of flour. However, if you add excessively, the dough may become dry and rigid.
First Rise
The dough should be shaped into a round ball. It can then be placed in a lightly oiled bowl. You can cover the dough with plastic wrap or dampened kitchen towels and leave it in a warm place, free from air drafts for approximately 1-2 hour or until its size has doubled.
Shape the Loaf
The dough will rise, so gently press it to remove air bubbles. After lightly flouring a surface, place the dough on it and roll into a loaf by folding in the corners and pressing down the seam. Place the loaf, seam side up, on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Second Rise
Let the dough rise 30 minutes to an hour, until it is doubled.
Prepare the Oven
Preheat the oven to 220degC (425degF) during the second rising of your dough.
Steam for a Crusty Crust
Pour a delicious crust on your bread, you can place an oven safe shallow pan filled with water below the rack. You will get steam that will give your bread a crispy exterior.
Bread to Bake
Place the sheet of bread on the middle oven rack and bake it for 25-30 minute, until the top is golden-brown and the bottom sounds hollow.
Cool and Enjoy
Once the loaf has cooled, remove it from the over and place on a cooling rack. Let the loaf cool for at least fifteen minutes. When cooled, cut the bread and enjoy it with your favorite spreads.
